Summertime is my favorite time of the year for makeup! I mean, who doesn’t love a beautiful highlight
in the glistening sun? Even though your makeup looks absolutely beautiful in the summer, if you’re like
me, you have the annoying task of dealing with oily skin. Here are a few skin tips that can be used to
combat the issue of oily skin so that you can wear makeup more easily! Also, check out the makeup and
skin products that can be used if you have this type of skin.
- Tone, tone, tone!
Using toner is a great way to balance your skin before applying makeup. You may even want to
save money by making a D.I.Y. toner that only requires two ingredients: apple cider vinegar and
water. Fill a small container or cup with half water and half vinegar to get the perfect balance of
both ingredients. Dap a bit on a cotton and apply it to your face. Your skin will thank you later!
Product Suggestion: Simple Soothing Facial Toner, $5.94, buy it here.
- Cold black tea may do the trick!
Try this on your skin, not in your cup! Using cold black tea is an old-fashioned method that is still
helpful for preventing oily skin. You simply place a black tea bag in a cup of cold water and apply
it to your face for a few minutes. Repeat this method until you’ve applied it to your entire face.
Product Suggestion: Revlon Colorstay for Combo/Oily Skin Makeup, $12.99, buy it here.
- Get your daily dose of vitamins!
One of the biggest causes of oily skin (and skin issues in general), is that we do not get the
proper amount of vitamins into our system. Vitamin A, C, and E helps with healing, repairing skin
damage, cell repair, and more. Getting the right amount of Zinc and Omega 3 fatty acids will also
help the health of your skin. The healthy the skin, the easier it becomes to prevent oil.
Product Suggestion: Laura Mercier Oil-free Foundation Primer, $36, buy it here.
- Skin prep is a must before applying makeup!
A lot of women think that applying makeup only requires a washed face. To prevent having oily
skin under your makeup, there are actual steps you should take to prepping your face. Follow
this order to prevent oily skin: cleanse, exfoliate, tone, moisturize, apply primer, and WAIT. Take
a few minutes to allow your face to soak all of those steps in before applying your makeup.
Product suggestion: Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray (Oil-Control), $30, buy it here.
- Keep those makeup brushes CLEAN!
Another huge reason we have such oily skin lies within the tools we use. Not washing and
sanitizing our makeup brushes can cause buildup which leads to oily (and dirty) skin. Overall,
dirty brushes are just plain disgusting! To remove all of the access makeup on your brushes, try
using a soft conditioner or soap and allow your brushes to dry overnight. They will be good as
new in the morning!
Product suggestion: Neutrogena Oil Free Cleansing Wipes-Pink Grapefruit, $7.49, buy it here.

Hello,
Anna,
I am sorry to hear that about the issues in the area of the spots and sweats. For the sweat you should try a Final Mist spray which you can obtain from Elf, H & M, or MAC. It works great; especially in this summer heat. The Mist allows your makeup to stay on until you decide to remove it. Good Luck. Let us at The Social Nubian site know how it work out for you. Come back again, Anna.

Great job! I love UD’s setting spray. I use it on my beauty blenders when I want them to be semi damp before applying my foundation. You have gorgeous hair btw!! <3
